Visitors Amenity & Renewables Test Centre

Some of the visitor attractions will be available from an early stage. The intention is to develop a number of attractions with an aim to eventually becoming a full visitor centre that will have an ecotourism appeal. This will draw in visitors to area, ending the current dead zone of this stretch of the canal.

In addition to members of the public, the Lambhill Stables site will be an ideal place for schools to visit, providing and stimulating educational environment that will be an interactive, enjoyable way for children to learn about both the natural and cultural heritage of the area and gain a better understanding of environmental issues.

Possil Marsh at the rear of the Stables is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), giving it protection under the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act 2004. Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) is responsible for SSSI’s. SNH sees the site as being suitable for sustainable access for recreation and environmental education. SNH has already expressed interest in working with the LDT to achieve community appreciation of the site and wider environmental issues.

The shop can be an outlet for some of the products created through the training programmes such as woodcarving. Individuals will develop an immense sense of pride in their work, building their self-esteem and confidence if it is sold in the shop. The shop will also stock recycled and environmentally friendly products including souvenir items providing a source of income generation.

                                                            Cultural Heritage

A key part of the development of the Lambhill Stables is to provide a means for the community to become more involved in their cultural history. The findings of any research or any other pictures or artifacts relating to the areas cultural & natural heritage will be displayed in the gallery area. There will be a drive to get young people involved to help inspire sense of pride in the local area and as a result, help them realise their potential and encourage them to develop greater aspirations in all areas of their lives.
